Siblings

Congratulations on your new baby brother or sister!

This is an exciting time for you, but it might be a little confusing, too.  That’s ok! We have all been there, and we are here now to offer you support and information through the Siblings’ First Call Program.

Your parents may have explained to you that your new brother or sister might look or act a little different from you.  You do not have to be scared or worried, because there are a lot of resources available to help you and your family.  You will soon find that children with Down syndrome are more alike than different from other children.

A dedicated group of experienced siblings of a brother or sister with Down syndrome are available statewide to talk with you over the phone or meet with you in person.

If you are a sibling to an older child or an adult with Down syndrome, we can share information with you, too.  Just let us know a little about your sibling when we contact you so that we can match you with an appropriate volunteer.

For detailed information, please email our First Call New Parent Coordinator, Patty Alessandro.
